The ESCAPE story starts many years ago in the mind of the Founder and Chief Executive of Sim Leisure, Sim Choo Kheng. Having been brought up in a Kampung in Penang, Sim always knew from a child what the value and fun of playing outdoors with friends in the natural environment was. We all grow older but Sim decided never to grow up. He founded a company that has been designing and building theme parks around the world for the past 20 years. Today, Sim Leisure is one of the leading theme park consultancies in the world. However there was always the urge to bring the experience and fun back to his roots, Penang. The opportunity to realise the dream of building ESCAPE came when an open tender was opened in 2009 to build a tourist attraction in Penang. Sim Leisure submitted and won the tender to create ESCAPE on the land of the Teluk Bahang dam former project offices and staging area. ESCAPE is different from any other theme park. It is a re-visioning and departure from the conventional ideas of roller-coaster rides, and sugar coated fantasies. ESCAPE draws from childhood past to capture the dreams and traditional values and addresses some of the problems of our current age by encouraging physical wellness and re-connection with nature...all through play in the quest for fun.
