About
Chef Erling Jensen made a name for himself at the popular La Tourelle and has now ventured out on his own at this eponymous restaurant located in a converted suburban home just off Poplar Avenue near the Ridgeway Inn. Understated elegance and contemporary art set the tone for Jensen's innovative cuisine. Well grounded in the French kitchen, Jensen brings a somewhat traditional flavor to his menu. You might start a meal with crawfish mousse with penne pasta and Oregon truffles; a Parmesan, goat-cheese, and Vidalia-onion tart; or seared Sonoma foie gras with pears and sauternes. A diverse assortment of entrees makes decision-making difficult, but among the options you might encounter ostrich with a ginger demiglace; vanilla-bean and Brazil nut-crusted orange roughy (a firm-fleshed white fish); or rack of lamb with a pecan, mustard, garlic, and molasses crust. There is always a wide assortment of house-made sorbets and ice creams (chocolate-marzipan-chunk ice cream, mango sorbet) available for dessert, but, of course, there are also more artistic confections, such as warm chocolate tart with roasted bananas and honey-almond-crunch ice cream. The large staff is well trained to provide impeccable service.
