Entrepôt Lainé

7 rue Ferrère

About

This establishment, situated near the quais, was formerly named "Entrepôt Réel des Denrées Coloniales," which housed exotic merchandise in the early days of the Bordeaux port. Completed in 1824, it resembles the Amsterdam Stock Exchange. Its design, by the architect Claude Deschamps, is directly inspired by Roman architecture. You'll notice the repetition of arcs, the large central space, as well as the use of brick and tiled rock. It feels like utilitarian architecture, with little decoration to dissimulate the construction materials. Today, the former stockroom houses the contemporary museum of Bordeaux, the CAPC.
