Edificio de Correos
Avenida de Alfonso XIII
About
Centrally located, the Edificio de Correos (Post Office Building) is a somewhat sober building, constructed along the lines of the regional Santander style which characterised most of Cantabria's architecture at the beginning of the twentieth century. It was constructed in 1915 and designed by the architects Secundino Zuazo and Eugenio Fernández Quintanilla. It typifies the buildings common in Santander before the great fire in 1941 which razed a good part of the city. It was conceived on a grand scale, and is basically rectangular, organised around a large central hall. Fashioned from large ashlar stone, the façade is flanked by three polygonal towers facing out over Plaza de las Farolas and the Pereda Gardens.
