Diu Fort

Diu Fort is an old Portuguese landmark, which was constructed between 1535 and 1541. This fort is situated right along the shoreline, which is testimony of the strategic alliance between the Sultan of Gujarat and the Portuguese. The Diu Fort is also known as the Portuguese Fort and has the Diu Jail and a lighthouse. Diu Fort was constructed on the ruins of a fortress built by the Arab Governor Malekhyaaz in 1400. The fort is situated at the end of the Fort Road and is around 29 m high. From this fort, tourists can get a panoramic view of the Arabian Sea. The fort is surrounded by the sea on three sides and is connected with a canal on the fourth side. Few canons can still be seen at the fort, which belonged to the Portuguese army.
