Discovery Trail

Discovery Trail is an easy 0.3-mile hike located in Lower Franklin Canyon off Lake Drive. The round trip hike runs parallel along Lake Drive up one side then down the other. It is an easy loop through black walnut trees and elderberry bushes along the canyon bottom. Keep at watchful eye for poison hemlock. DO NOT TOUCH! Dogs must be on leash at all times. . Parking areas: The main parking lot is located at the Ranch Area adjacent to the Doheny House. Additional parking is available along Lake Drive and at the Sooky Goldman Nature Center. To get there from Los Angeles ake the San Diego Freeway / US 405 to Sunset Boulevard. Head east on Sunset Boulevard and proceed several miles to Beverly Drive. Go about half a mile and turn left onto Coldwater Canyon Drive. Turn right on Franklin Canyon Drive and proceed about 1 mile making a right turn onto Lake Drive. Park at main lot at end of road.
