Diemersdal

Durbanville

About

Diemersdal, one of the oldest farms in Durbanville, was granted to free burgher Hendrik Sneewind on 18 September 1698. The farm came into the hands of the Louw family in 1885. Since then, wine-making has been the main objective, although it was not always the only reason for cultivating vines; Matthys Michaels (Tinnie) Louw also had a vinegar factory in Salt River. Today, Tienie is the fourth generation of Louws on the farm. He continues with the wine-making and also sows grain. Diemersdal, is situated in the shadows of the Kanonkop in the Durbanville wine area. Its location is particularly suitable for making high quality red varieties.
