Delville Wood Memorial

Western Cape, South Africa

About

Located in the Company's Garden, along with many other popular Cape Town attractions, such as the Houses of Parliament, Planetarium, St. George's Cathedral and many others, the Delville Wood Memorial Garden stands as a memorial to those who lost their lives in the tragice Battle of Delville Wood, one of the earliest battles of World War I, which took place in France. Of 3,000 Allied soldiers, most from South Africa, only 755 remained at the end of the battle. Today, their early sacrifice is commemorated here in the midst of one of Cape Town's most visited areas. The gardens are open 7:00-19:00 in Summer, and 7:00-18:00 in Winter.
