About

Cultúrlann McAdam Ó Fiaich is an arts and cultural centre with a strong focus on Irish language and culture. The centre offers, through its arts programme, theatre, music, visual arts, poetry, literary events, workshops and classes catering for all ages.Based in a former Presbyterian church on the Falls Road, the building has had a number of incarnations during its often troubled history. As an arts centre it is at the heart of a vibrant cultural community. Cultúrlann also houses a café /restaurant, book and gift shop and a tourist information point. The dramatic new curved extension includes the Gerard Dillon art gallery, a must see for art lovers. In the interactive space on the first floor, visitors will get an insight into the development of Irish language and culture in Belfast and on how Irish has influenced English, with words such as ‘shanty’, ‘smashing’ and ‘kybosh’ all originating in Irish. Tourists can visit the centre, enjoy the exhibitions, hear a traditional Irish music session, browse in the shop or enjoy a meal. A ‘Gaeltacht experience’ evening can also be booked by groups. This includes a three course meal with live traditional music, song and dance followed by a céilí (Irish dance) where everyone has a go and learns some steps. For more details see our website at www.culturlann.ie or call Aoife on 0044 28 9096 4180.Traditional music sessions take place every Saturday from 12 - 2pm in the Cultúrlann Café. All are welcome to bring an instrument and join in. It's also free to listen, just come along and enjoy the buzz over a coffee or lunch!
