A downtown firestation might not be the most obvious port of call on a sightseeing tour of Rio, but it's well worth taking the time to check out the dramatically different headquarters of Rio's fire brigade. Flaming red in color and with details picked out in silver, the sprawling building is oddly reminiscent of a Moorish palace. Located on an otherwise unassuming street in the heart of Rio's business district, the landmark building adds a splash of color to this workaday neighborhood, and makes for a great photo opportunity. - Lucy Bryson
