Cooktown's historical museum, which is staffed by volunteers, is also housed in the town's oldest building, a former post office and telegraph office. It also holds the town's archives and a research center for local history that also has displays. At this writing, the main display was "Cooktown Through the Years," which focuses on the city during is pioneer and Gold Rush era.
