Colegio de San Ambrosio

Calle de Gibraltar 2

About

You'll find this school close to the cathedrals on your way down Calle Tentenecio heading towards the river. It was originally built as an orphanage and was later remodeled by Joaquín de Churriguera in the 18th century. His intricate baroque façade features a niche bearing a statue of Saint Joseph and the Infant Jesus. Salamanca town council's coat-of-arms graces both sides of the entrance. The archives relating to the Spanish Civil War have been housed here since the end of the conflict.
