Avenida Marginal, Monte Estoril
About
In Monte Estoril, just outside the center of Estoril, this restaurant is housed in the replica of an Elizabethan cottage. Tables open onto views of the sea. You'll eat very well here on market-fresh ingredients skillfully handled by a well-trained kitchen staff. The bar that opened on this site in World War II became a haven for spies. In time it became the unofficial headquarters of opponents of the Franco regime in Spain, including Don Juan de Borbon, father of the present Spanish king. Novelists, journalists, and artists flocked here. In its newest incarnation, it offers many refined dishes beginning with melon with smoked ham and going on to game specialties such as woodcock flambé or hare with butter beans. The savory sea bass with clams is a specialty.
