About

The Chhatri of Raja Jaswant Singh is the only monument in Agra that was built by a Hindu during the Mughal era. This monument is a domed pillared pavilion shaped cenotaph, which reflects Rajasthani architecture. Currently maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India, this monument was built between 1644 and 1658. The monument is dedicated to Rani Hada, who was the princess of Bundi in Rajasthan. She married Amar Singh Rathore, who was killed on 25th July, 1644 at Agra Fort. When Rani Hada saw his body, she committed sati at the spot. To commemorate her memory, Raja Jaswant Singh, younger brother of Amar Singh Rathore, built this chhatri.
