About

Central Market, a former wet market, has been lovingly and cleverly preserved, restored and transformed into a one-stop cultural shopping complex. This 123-year old structure, with a glorious Art Deco exterior, is home to dozens of kiosks and stores brimming with local handicraft, home wares, antiques, fashion, jewelry and quirky souvenirs. Different zones are used to categorize the different cultures  the Malay lane is where you can find all things Malay from wau (kites), songket (silk), keris (Malay dagger) and batik; Chinese and Indian lanes. Amble past traders and fortune-tellers, all of whom can be seen busy plying their wares. Good investments include silver, wau, songket, batik, pewter, wood craft, Chinese painting, and Nyonya Baba antiques. Sometimes prices can be slightly elevated than what you may find elsewhere. These days you can find products from all over Asia at the Central Market.

"Central market is a short walk from Pasar Seni, Chinatown (Petaling Street),To get to Central Market, the easiest way is to take the Putra LRT train and get off at the "Pasar Seni” station. As you exit the station, you will be able to see the market directly opposite the main road. .Its a one stop shopping center for Malaysian products such as handicrafts, art, kebaya, songket, batik and the wide variety of Malaysian cuisine,we purchase few souvenirs which are all locally made such as kebaya, I will recommend you to shop from here, and after shopping If you are looking for a place to put up for the night after a long day at the Central Market,One can able to choose the nearest hotels ." - By Priti Kumari, 27 Aug 2013
