About
The Tower was built just before 1880 as a consequence of fear of an imminent Napoleonic invasion of England, using Ireland as a back door. It was 40 feet high and 30 feet square. One can still see that it was within communication distance of sister towers on the Great Blasket and Ballydavid Head (north side of Smerwick Harbour). The cliff here has a sheer drop of nearly 700 feet and is very dangerous.
