About
See the glamour of yesteryear in this stunningly renovated 1920 movie house.
One of the few surviving vaudeville and silent movie houses in California, the Loews, now known as the Arkley Center for the Performing Arts, once again shines as a premier entertainment center in downtown Eureka. After a hiatus of more than 30 years, the building was brought back to glittering splendor following a multimillion-dollar renovation. Today, the show goes on in this 1920 Spanish Colonial Revival landmark, with musical acts, live theater, and cinematic works filling the calendar. As for the restoration, the attention to detail is exquisite, with every effort made to restore original elements, or recreate them. For example, the new marquee has a beautiful design based on photographs of the original sign. It's this kind of attention to detail that has made this huge restoration effort truly remarkable.
