Perched high on a hillside above bohemian Santa Teresa, this mansion house sits in stark contrast to the favelas (slums) that surround it. The building, which had once fallen into disrepair, has been fully remodeled and now serves as a cultural centeR featuring regular displays of artwork from residents of the nearby favelas, through the Comunid arte programme. Dance classes, art workshops and other cultural events take place here, and the building itself is worth a visit. To get here, stay on board the Dois Irmoes tram until its final stop. - Lucy Bryson
