About
This is the oldest and most historic restaurant in Girona, with walls of photographs that celebrate the town's modernist movement as well as the opening of its first narrow-gauge railway -- in this case between Girona and nearby St. Feliu de Guixols. Set in the heart of town, it specializes in a regional Catalan cuisine that's completely dependent on whatever is available at local markets. The best examples include chicken with shrimp, roast lamb, duck with pears, filet steak with flap mushrooms, and fresh grilled fish. A noteworthy regional specialty is a casserole-style trinxat, made from rice, ham, cabbage, and potatoes; and scrambled eggs prepared with pork sausage and prawns. Dessert might include a deliberately undercooked, marvelous slice of white chocolate cake with house-made ice cream. The restaurant contains five different dining areas, most of them permeated with an Art Nouveau theme, some with stained-glass windows and high-backed banquettes.
