About

The earliest record of the Cairns Botanic Gardens dates back to 1876 when the then Council designated approximately 71 acres for a recreational reserve.  The location was gazetted as north-west of Cairns and approximately three miles (five kilometres) from the town centre. Today the "recreational reserve" has blossomed into several botanic spaces used for demonstrating the diverse plant life that can be found within a tropical climate and provides visitors with a taste of the Daintree. The Cairns Botanic Garden can be found on Collins Ave, Edge Hill and can be accessed by public transport from the city (Sunbus) or by car (ample street parking available), by bicycle or on foot.  Entry is free.
