Šaran (Serbian for carp) is a fish restaurant at the very beginning of the Zemun quay, on the right bank of the Danube. My earliest childhood memories date back to the occasional family gatherings organized there. Little has changed since then. The fish is still fresh and yummy, the wine list is carefully assembled, the music pleasant and typical for Zemun and Srem (as Zemun, you know, is not Belgrade, as everyone born in Zemun, including me, will never fail to remind you) and the interior old-fashioned in the best sense of the term. The generally gregarious atmosphere gets additionally warmed up in winter by boiled rakija and cheerful live music which leaves no one sitting.
