Budafok-Varoshaz ter

Budafok

About

This historic old town only became part of Budapest in 1950. Evidence suggests that it was already inhabited in the Bronze Age. By 1739, it had village status (it was called Promontor), and it then began to expand with the arrival of German settlers starting in the 1750's. It only began to be called Budafok in 1886. The main square (Varoshaz ter) took it's name from the beautiful Town Hall. The town is also the location of the famous Torley Champagne House and Museum.
