Boran

2/F, Exchange Tower, 388 Sukhumvit Expressway Cuisines: Chinese, Asian, Thai

About

Located right across the hall from True Fitness in Exchange Tower at Asoke junction, Boran is hardly the place one would look for some traditional Thai dishes, let alone moderately priced servings of it. Opened by a Thai former travel writer/food critic in July 2010, Boran is a cafe with a bit of retro Thai touches. The menu includes traditional Thai boat noodles, typically sold from the boats in floating markets. Dim sum is delivered each morning from Chinatown (Yaowarat). Other items include deep-fried shrimp dumplings, pork wontons, and deep-fried Chinese buns. Tender braised beef and pork is served with rice or noodles. The noodles are from Rangsit, an area famous for them. All styles of ice Thai coffee and tea are available and some bottled beer. Kids will love the "rocket soda," made from a tin spaceship turned soda fountain, something one used to see in the old-style markets like Amphawa Floating Market or in Chinatown. The pedestrian bridge from the Skytrain at Asoke station connects right into the 2nd floor. You'll pass the sister eatery, Chu on your way in. WiFi from Chu may be available with a code.
