Bird watching, boating, yachting, rowing, picnics, and water skiing are some of the outdoor activities in Chandigarh that you can enjoy at the Sukhna Lake that is an artificial water body created by damming the Sukhna Choe. It also hosts the Asian rowing championships every year. A two kilometre path on top of the dam encircles the lake. The lake has also been declared a protected national wetland, where migratory birds like Siberian ducks, storks and cranes nest in winter. In summer, residents participate in an annual de-silting operation to keep the lake bed clean.
