Bellotero

Via Giorgio Castriota 31 Cuisines: Italian

About

Lying in the Palermo new town, this is one of the most traditional of all Sicilian restaurants. The 10-table restaurant draws mainly Palermo foodies, who feast on such dishes as fresh fish and shellfish, beginning with a seafood appetizer of calamari, mussels, and shrimp. Many diners begin their meal with a lobster-studded pasta, and you can order such fare as spaghetti with sea bass or sea urchins with lemon zest, perhaps lamb with oven-roasted pistachios. The menu also features Sicilian rabbit and even serves filet of horse, which sounds revolting to many diners, although it is a traditional Sicilian dish with a long-standing reputation among gourmets. For dessert, we recommend the pistachio ice cream.
