Belgaum Fort

The original structure made of mud and stone was built under the guidance of Bichiraja, a Ratta Officer. However, the entire structure was fortified with huge walls, a deep moat, bastions, parapets and battlements of a fortress by the Bijapur Sultanate's Yakub Ali Khan. Later on this fort came under the dynasties of Vijaynagar, Marathas, Bijapur Sultans, and lastly the British. Even Mahatma Gandhi was imprisoned here during the freedom struggle of India.
