When you feel the urge to get out of Beijing's urban sprawl but don't know where to go, check in with the Beijing Hikers Club. Organizers of hikes in the mountains, villages and plains around Beijing, this group is serious about their fun. All their hikes are professionally planned and lead. Participants meet at the LIDO Starbucks and board a bus together. Hike times vary from an afternoon to two days with varying degrees of difficulty. One of their more popular hikes takes participants along little visited sections of the Great Wall. Originally operated by an expat and his wife who both loved to be outdoors, Beijing Hikers is not your typical Chinese tour company. All collected fees go directly into supplying transport, water, and maintaining their ever expanding collection of outdoor walks.
