Rio locals love to relax after work with a cold beer and a light meal, and nowhere is this better illustrated than at Beco das Sardinhas, or 'Sardine Alley'. Here, at Rua Miguel Couto in Centro, you'll find a pedestrianized street lined with small café bars whose plastic tables and chairs spill out into the road. Each of these informal spots specializes in the fried sardines that have come to be known affectionately as 'chicken of the sea'.
