Basilica and Convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo

The temple was built between 1687 and 1767 in the same place of the Palace of Boa Vista, owned by Maurício de Nassau, the Dutch Governor of Brazil (XVIIth century). Next to the Basilica, there is the Church of Order Terceira (Church of Santa Teresa), built between 1710 and 1837.There are still traces of baroque art which are still visible in some parts of the church. Is interior contains works of remarkable artistic expression.Even with the modernization of the church, you can still detect a hint of Gothic architecture which is prevalent during the 18th century.
