About
Experience a real-life railway in operation and learn about the history of railways in Barry and beyond. The Railway is open on dates throughout the year for families, groups and rail enthusiasts, offering a fun and enjoyable trip. At the Barry Tourist Railway we have a welcoming approach to all our visitors, and we are always happy to talk about the railway and our plans and vision for the future. Over the coming months and years we will be improving the Railway and enhancing visitor facilities, and we invite you to journey with us as we do so. We have a new Station Café at the Barry Island Station Buildings, which is open throughout the year from Easter onwards, and our passengers are welcomed to join the Railway at the café where you can purchase tickets for our services. We operate services for passengers on dates throughout the year, using either our own trains, or one of our regular visiting steam locomotives. At Barry we have a heritage 1957 Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU Class 101), called Iris II that we have refurbished and turned into a comfortable passenger environment. We also have a Class 73 diesel locomotive, which can typically be seen hauling Mk 2f passenger coaches.
