Baluarte

Av. D. Carlos 1-6 Cuisines: Seafood, Spanish

About

This restaurant is one of the most sought after in town by some of the coast's most discerning palates -- it attracts mainly foreign vacationers who often come here to show off their chic resort apparel at night. The decor is sleek and modern, with comfortable, upholstered chairs set at tables with crisp white linens and crystal. Some of the dishes, especially those of the sea, fairly explode with sublime flavors. Of these we savor the feijoada de marisco, a grand paella-like dish that mixes meat with rice and black beans, even freshly caught seafood. The house specialty is bacalhau or dried cod à Baluarte, an elegant interpretation of this rather peasant dish. We also revel in the chef's medallions of grouper with fresh shrimp. To end your meal, we recommend one of the luscious desserts, such as freshly prepared pastries.
