he Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden has the origin with a humble menagerie, dating way back to 1957which is also the year of the 64th session of the Indian National Congress, held at Pandu in the city of Guwahati. The organizing committee of this session arranged, apart from other activities, for display of few animals and birds in a small exhibition meant for the entertainment of the delegates. The star attraction of the collection and a hot favourite among the delegates was a female Leopard cub named Spotty.
