Though based in London, Ashley Isham is one of the most famous Singaporean fashion designers around, having founded his own self-titled clothing label back in 2000. Isham hit the headlines after he designed Zara Phillips outfit for the Royal Ascot in 2002, and that followed with a much raved-about showing in 2003 at the London Fashion Week.
He has dressed celebrities such as Angelina Jolie and Kylie Minogue, and in 2008, he opened his flagship store in Singapore. Located at the majestic Fullerton Hotel, his is the only boutique with an exclusive entrance accessible from outside the Fullerton. His designs are inspired by his Southeast Asian heritage with motifs and detailing taken from Eastern influences often evident in his designs.
His "goddess gowns" and attention-grabbing couture pieces are celebrity favourites. For those of us whose wages do not quite measure up to that of the average diva, Ashley Isham's diffusion line makes a much more affordable alternative.
