About
The best steakhouse in Downtown is Arnie Morton's, the legendary steakhouse chain with branches as far flung as Hong Kong. You'll often see both movie and sports celebrities here, knocking down the cocktails and trying their best to polish off a porterhouse. Located below street level, the windowless restaurant has that old-fashioned Midwestern steakhouse feel to it: dark mahogany woods, brass fittings, high-backed leather booths, white table linens, and a tuxedoed maitre d' who warmly greets you as he escorts you to your table. There's no menu to peruse; rather, the waiter pushes a cart to your table and does a well-rehearsed show-and-tell presentation of the Saran-wrapped meats, vegetables, and seafood available (including a giant live lobster that looks mighty forlorn). House specialties are the double filet mignon, the 48-ounce porterhouse for two, and the rib-eye, with a baked Idaho on the side and a slice of Key lime pie for dessert. Lamb chops, chicken, and swordfish steaks are available as well, but it's the cuts of Chicago grain-fed cow that have made Morton's the godfather of American steakhouses.
