There's no better spot to celebrate apple season than Abel's Apple Acres in Placerville.  This working ranch and apple orchard on Apple Hill in the Sierra Foothills has been in owner Evelyn Abel's family for generations. It is open to the public from Labor Day weekend through Christmas Eve. During this time, visitors can pick apples off trees, buy home-baked apple pies (some of which weigh as much as five pounds) and wander through a Hay Maze.
