Anegundi Fort is situated in a small village called Anegundi.The Anegundi Fort wall is spread over a large area enclosing the Anegundi village. Though the fort wall is disjointed at many places, remnants of the turrets and gates can be seen. Inside the fort, there is a Hanuman Temple, Durga Temple, Ganesha Cave Temple, a stepped well and several tombs.
It is believed that as the royal elephants of Vijayanagara were brought here for bathing this place got the name 'Anegundi'. Anegundi is believed to be one of the oldest plateaus on Earth.
Other attractions near the fort include Pampa Sarovara Laxmi Temple, Rishyamukha Sarovara and Anjanadri Hill.
