As Amsterdam commemorates the 150th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in Suriname and the Netherlands Antilles, the Amsterdam City Archives looks back on the period with a fascinating array of exhibits dating back to as early as 1648. Amsterdam and Slavery runs until 15 August 2013.Documented slaveryFeaturing excerpts from the archives kept by the Amsterdam authorities, families and by mercantile houses, the exhibition helps visitors to imagine what life was like during the period. Entrance to this exhibition is free.
