Ambakka Devalaya is famed for its intricately carved wooden pillars and beams. Built during Gampola reign, the Devalaya (Kovil) is made almost entirely of wood. The carvings include with dancers, musicians, plants, vines, wrestlers, mythical characters, beasts and birds. Although sufficient steps are not taken to protect them, the carvings are still in good condition. The carvings display the rich heritage of Sri Lanka.
