The flamboyant decoration of Ameroni's would not look amiss in a 1930s mafia hangout as this Italian-American restaurant goes out of the way to stress its theme. The food, however, blends everything that is great about both American and Italian cuisine with large portions and rich tastes. The weekday two-course lunch specials are very affordable, and even the most ravenous appetite will struggle to finish the Parmesan Chicken with spaghetti side. Friendly staff are happy to serve free refills of hot coffee or ice lemon tea to help wash down the meal. In the evening, the price of à la carte items increases quite substantially. - James Reynolds
