About
The little workshop of Alfio Ferlito, located in the pedestrian precinct of Olivella, produces delightful artworks using mixed materials, mainly recycling. The best-selling items are the miniatures by Ferlito himself reproducing charming home interiors, handcrafted in wood, glass and other materials which reveal sensitivity and a close attention to detail. This was what prompted his winning of the municipality prize for the best shop window in 2007. In the small space of a shop-window showcase Ferlito recreates the fascination of a writer's room, of an artist's atelier, of a mechanic or a library, and also provides reproductions of real houses on demand. The craftsman A. Fiorito works with him creating little papier maché or clay statues and nativity scenes. Their peculiarity consists in the dimensions which can be very reduced, such as for the cute creches enclosed in nutshells, an ideal souvenir for people not wishing to overfill their suitcases. Bigger figurines represent the old Sicilian arts and professions, such as the Acquaiolo (water seller) or the picturesque sea urchin and the prickly pear sellers. Other fancy items are the rather nice marquetry pieces by A. Puccio.
