The course was first opened in 1989 and is ranked in the category of "Grand Old Dames" of traditional course designs with tree-lined narrow fairways. The course is built following the contours of the hilly terrain in this southern part of Surabaya. Ahmad Yani can be compared with a course like Senayan or Rawamangun in Jakarta. Due to circumstances beyond control of the course in the early 60-ties. It was re-opened in 1965. In 1980, a certain professor Erich Kremmer renovated the course and presently it is open for members as well as for the general public.
