A.F.C. Bournemouth - watch a game of football. Bournemouth F.C. are historically one of the oldest teams about, but play in much lower leagues (Wessex at present). Cricket and bowls are played by a lot of locals and is easy to get involed in. Swimming, windsurfing and kitesurfing is popular as is (normal) surfing to a lesser extent.
