Adrianou is considered the "main street" of Plaka. Technically pedestrian even if the sporadic roar of a motorcycle sends people to the street's edges, it makes for a wonderful introduction of the city's oldest neighborhoods, Plaka and Monastiraki. Both sides are lined with shops that range from the chintzy to the spectacular in Greek products like olive oil soap, plastic evil eyes, gold, ceramics, linens and fashion. Even non-shoppers will enjoy the plentiful variety of ice cream vendors and liveliness of the street, well known for being packed as a Hong Kong sidewalk in the high season of July and August. Most of the shops here know their market and therefore keep more regular hours than the stores that serve mainly Greek clientele. Follow the street until you hit the Roman Agora where you can either veer around or cut through with a two euro admission fee or your Acropolis ticket pack. A bit further down you'll hear the occasional passing of the train on the city's oldest railway from Piraeus to Kifissia which cuts under the entrance to sculpted green of the Ancient Agora. The other side of the street is lined with cafes offering coffee and mezzedes.The walk ends just at the Thisseio Metro Station.
