About
Founded in 1911 by Danish educators, the small town of Solvang (Danish for "sunny field') in the Santa Ynez Valley is a postcard perfect slice of coastal living with a Danish twist. The town is famous for its bakeries and quaint Scandinavian-style hotels, and takes its Danish roots very seriously. The Elverhøj Museum of History and Art, housed in a former home richly embellished with Scandinavian architectural elements, focuses on the history of Solvang, the Danish-American pioneer spirit, the colorful heritage of Denmark, and the arts. After a museum visit, take a stroll past traditional windmills and boutique-filled buildings topped with traditional thatched roofs. Duck into inviting tasting rooms, where you can sip one of the region’s exceptional vintages, particularly Pinot Noir. The surrounding area also features several beautiful golf courses.
