Cherrapunji in Meghalaya has several reasons to claim. It is the second wettest place on the planet and the only place in India to receive rain throughout the year. The town of Cherrapunji is nestled in the East Khasi Hills about 50 km southwest of state capital Shillong. The town is also known as Sohra and Churra.
Day 1: Arrival At Guwahati Airport And Drive To Shillong
Arrive Guwahati airport and drive to Shillong. Check into hotel and after refreshment time permits we visit Cathedral of Marry and Ward’s lake, evening roam the Shillong famous Police Bazar on foot. Overnight stay in Shillong
Day 2: Shillong To Cherrapunjee Drive Back To Shillong
You will be traveling to Cherrapunjee the wettest place on the earth. Enroute visit the famous Elephant Falls and Shillong Peak - to enjoy a bird’s eye view of Shillong city. At Cherrapunjee visit – Mawsmai cave, Mawsmai falls, Sevensisters falls and Nohkalikai falls. After lunch at Cherrapunjee, visit Thankarang park, Koh Ramhah and Khrem falls. Drive back to Shillong for overnight halt
Day 3: Shillong To Bhalukpong
After breakfast drive to Bhalukpong. Overnight stay at hotel
Day 4: Bhalukpong To Dirang
Today after breakfast drive to Dirang enroute at Tipi visit Orchid center and enroute visit Sessa orchid sanctuary (blooming is from end March till May), reach Dirang and visit the Dirang Dzong and a Monpa village. Check into the hotel and overnight stay at Dirang.
Day 5: Dirang To Tawang
Today after breakfast drive to Tawang enroute you will visit Sella Pass and Sella lake situated at an altitude of 13476 ft. Also visit Jaswant Ghar and before reaching Tawang visit the Nunarang fall. Reach Tawang and check into hotel. Evening at leisure. Overnight at Tawang
Day 6: Tawang Sightseeing
Tawang Monastery was founded by Merak Lama Lodre Gyatso in the year 1680-81. The monastery stands on the spur of a hill, about 10,000 feet above sea level and has ravines in the south and west, narrow ridge on the north and gradual slope on the east. It offers a commanding and picturesque view of the Tawang-chu valley. From a distance it appears like a fort as if guarding the votaries in the wide valley below. Tawang monastery is the largest of its kind in the country and is one of the largest monasteries in Asia. Though it has the capacity for housing about seven hundred monks, the actual number of resident lamas (monks) at present is a little more than 450. This monastery is the fountain-head of the spiritual life of the people of this region.Also visit Urgelling Monastery the birth place of Sixth Dalia Lama. Ani Gompa, PTSo lake, and Sangetsar lake, after a late lunch and refreshment visit Tawang war memorial and evening at leisure. Overnight stay at Tawang.
Day 7: Tawang To Bomdila
After breakfast drive to Bomdila. Overnight in hotel Tsepal Yangjom or similar. (Standard, basic facilities)
Day 8: Bomdila To Kaziranga
After breakfast drive to Kaziranga National Park. Reach Kaziranga check into hotel and overnight stay. Note: This is for your information that elephant ride and jeep safari and forest entry are regulated and controlled by the forest department govt of Assam. As such we do not have any control for booking of elephant seats and entry by jeeps
Day 9: Kaziranga National Park
After an early wake up, you will be taken to the riding point for an Elephant ride. After the ride return back to the hotel after having breakfast at leisure. Afternoon enjoy the Park on a Jeep. Overnight stay at Kaziranga.
Day 10: Departure To Guwahati Airport
After breakfast drive to Guwahati airport.
